AIAI HOPEFUL NEW NDP LEADER WILL CONTINUE POSITIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH FIRST PEOPLES

For Immediate Release:

March 26, 2012

London, ON – The Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians (AIAI) congratulates Thomas Mulcair on securing the leadership of the New Democratic Party (NDP).

Former Party Leader Jack Layton had fostered a great working relationship with the First Peoples during his tenure and the hope is that Mr. Mulcair will continue to do the same.  Though early on in his leadership, there has been no mention of this relationship or his party’s future plans in this regard.

Grand Chief Denise Stonefish stated, “While we can appreciate Mr. Mulcair’s modernizing the NDP and its messaging into the 21st century, AIAI hopes to continue our strong and positive working relationship with the NDP and that Mr. Mulcair will endeavor to carry on the work done by Mr. Layton regarding First Peoples.”

The AIAI is mandated as a political territorial organization to defend and enhance the Aboriginal and Treaty rights of its eight member First Nations.  Visit them online at www.aiai.on.ca, https://twitter.com/#!/aiai_comms, www.facebook.com/aiai.pto, www.youtube.com/user/AIAIAdmin.
