NEW DEPUTY GRAND CHIEF OF AIAI BRINGS MUCH TO THE TABLE
London, ON –The Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians (AIAI) Chiefs Council has appointed Gord Peters to the position of Deputy Grand Chief at their meeting on Thursday of last week. He will serve in this position until May 30th, 2012.
Deputy Grand Chief Peters is from the Delaware Nation, Moravian of the Thames and brings a multitude of experience to the position. This long list of experience includes Presidency of AIAI, teaching at the University of Toronto, former Ontario Regional Vice-Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, President and CEO of the Centre for Indigenous Sovereignty, and work for and in First Nation communities for over twenty years.
Grand Chief Denise Stonefish welcomes Deputy Grand Chief Peters to the executive of AIAI. As he brings a wealth of experience, AIAI intends to utilize him to the fullest. The term will definitely be a busy one, especially with the recent provincial announcement of a new Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and the many pressing issues that AIAI would like to see progress in. "There will be much for the Deputy Grand Chief to do when he arrives and I look forward to working with him to advance AIAI's collective positions."
AIAI is mandated as a political territorial organization to defend and enhance the Aboriginal and Treaty rights of its eight member First Nations. Their website may be visited at www.aiai.on.ca .
