Education-School Closure Extension

School Closures Extended

On April 26, 2020, the Education Minister Stephen Lecce announced that publicly-funded schools will be closed until May 31, 2020.

If schools are allowed to be reopened in the future, employees will have access as of May 29, 2020.

Private schools, First Nation schools, licensed child care centres and EarlyON programs will remain closed until May 6, 2020, with certain exceptions for licensed care, under the emergency order in the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. Under this Act, they are only permitted to have closures be extended for 14 days at a time.

The remainder of Professional Activity (PA) days and examination days will be replaced with instructional time. There will be an expanded summer learning program on credit recovery, supports for vulnerable students, and course upgrading.
