AIAI CONGRATULATES CHIEF LAURIE CARR ON HER RE-ELECTION IN HIAWATHA

London, Ontario December 8th, 2022 – The Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians would like to extend their congratulations to Laurie Carr of Hiawatha First Nation, Michisaagiig of Rice Lake, on her re-election to Chief by way of acclamation earlier this week.

Grand Chief Joel Abram says “I have always enjoyed working with Chief Carr and I value her input given her experience and everything she had learned from her father Frank Cowie, has proven invaluable to the Indigenous Peoples. I look forward to working with her again and I
congratulate her. The people of Hiawatha are in great hands and the contributions she has made to those within AIAI serve as an inspiration in spirit and solidarity”.


Deputy Grand Chief Stacia Loft says “It has been my honour and privilege to work with Chief Carr. The time and effort she puts in for her Citizens and Community is truly inspiring. Her background and experience in the Health and Social field combined with the strong leadership of her father, has given her diverse and lived experiences to draw upon for effective leadership. I am pleased that she will continue to serve her community and I look forward to continuing to work and learn alongside her”.

Chief Carr says “I am truly grateful and humbled to be acclaimed as Hiawatha First Nations Chief for the 2023-2025 term. I am honoured to represent and work for our Citizens once again and look forward to all the good work that we will accomplish together. I know there is much work still be done and I strive to contribute to the betterment of my Community today and everyday”.
