AIAI RECOGNIZES JUSTIN TRUDEAU AND THE LIBERAL PARTY IN FORMING CANADA’S MAJORITY GOVERNMENT.

October 20, 2015 | London, ON The Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians supports Canadians in their choice to vote for change by electing Justin Trudeau leader of the Liberal Party, which will form Canada’s 42nd Federal Government.

Bringing Canadians together and supporting the interests of First Nations people has been part of the Liberal party’s platform and a central message over the course of the 78 days of campaigning. However real change will only be determined by the Liberal party’s ability to fulfill their campaign commitments and uphold their constitutional obligations to First Nations people.

While the Association looks forward to working with the new federal government to advance the interests of the AIAI Member Nations, Grand Chief Peter’s remains firm in his position “that the relationship between First Nations and the Canada exists on a nation-to-nation basis and it is through this relationship that Treaties were entered into. This government has the opportunity to change the course of history in how our nations work together, but it requires full participation and partnership of First Nations to shape a future that is truly reflective of our original agreements”.
